On May 1, I am launching The Listening Society - a community for people who care about or are interested in the wonder of sound and/or the skill of listening.

We teach our children how to read and write, but not how to listen; in our ocular culture, many people have become numb to sound and uninterested in listening: most people are more concerned with being heard than with listening to others, so noise escalates.

The Listening Society is a global nexus for anyone who wants to listen better, to discover more about how sound affects us and how we affect it, to combat deadly noise, or simply to explore the wonders of the sonic universe. It’s a practical meeting place, not an academic ivory tower.
